The Frog Who Could Not Croak - A Phonemic Awareness Tale CHP107 #14
The Frog Who Could Not Croak - A Phonemic Awareness Tale CHP107  The Frog Who Could Not Croak is the fourth in Lavelle Carlson's fun phonemic awareness series that is excellent practice for auditory discrimination as well as the phonemic awareness and language concepts. As each animal comes to the bog and says "Good morning" to the frog on the log, he says nothing. All he can do is hold a sign that says, "I am a frog and I cannot croak. I do not know why I cannot croak." Finally, the speech teacher comes along and checks out his problem. She makes a suggestion to him and he is finally able to croak.

This book is a speech pathologist's dream for intensive auditory discrimination for the /r/ sound in many contexts. It also shows a bit of humor in how speech pathologists come up with different ways of teaching the students the difficult lingual placement for the /r/ production. The repetitive dialogue makes the book great for scripting and acting out the story using animal hand puppets or student made puppet masks.

The rhyming, repetition, and predictability in this phonemic awareness tales storybook makes it ideal for the following:
> Head Start through early elementary (ages 3-7)
> Those at risk for dyslexia; i.e. family history, late language and speech development, ear infections)
> Childhood apraxia
> Austism
> English as a Second Language
> Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities - PPCD
