"The Fable of Mable with the Ladle at the Table" is the second in Lavelle Carlson's humorous phonemic awareness series that teaches phonemic awareness and language skills necessary for reading success. On the children's first day in the cafeteria their perception of Mable is of a large intimidating adult. Mable offers extremely bad and silly food choices or good food choices. As the children make the good choices Mable shows her pleasure and the children's perception of Mable changes.
The repetition in the book facilitates increased success for reading and makes the book great for scripting and acting out the story using animal hand puppets or student made puppet masks. There are targeted skills and suggested activities included in the back of the book for the benefit of teachers, speech pathologists, and parents.
