Test of Language Development-Intermediate (TOLD-I:3) Kit PE8445  This language development test was standardized on more than 700 children from 19 states. Test reliability, which was investigated by the coefficient alpha and test-retest methods, is sufficiently high to warrant the use of the test with individual children.

Evidence is provided in the manual to support the content, concurrent, and construct validity of the TOLD-I:3 test scores.

About this language development test:
A. It was designed for children ages 8 through 12.
B. It was constructed in accordance with criteria recommended by the American Psychological Association.
C. It has the strongest research base of any currently available language test battery.
D. It can be administered in approximately 40 minutes.
E. It reflects current theories pertaining to semantics, syntax, and phonology.
F. One of the most popular tests of spoken language today.
G. It profiles individual strengths and deficiencies in basic language abilities.
H. It reports results as standard scores, precentiles, and age equivalents.

Key features of the TOLD-I:3 are:
1. All new norms were collected in 1999 and were keyed to the current census data.
2. Norms are now completely representative of the U.S. population and stratified by age.
3. The test is proven to be unbiased relative to gender and race.
4. Reliability and validity studies were computed separately for minority and disability groups, as well as for the general population.
5. A new subtest, Picture Vocabulary, replaces Vocabulary as a measure of the linguistic construct receptive (i.e. listening) semantics.
6. Test rationale has been updated to reflect the thinking of today's theorists regarding oral communication.
7. Children's names used in the items have been revised to reflect the demographic makeup of today's students.
8. Every item on the test was reevaluated using classical item analysis to choose "good" statistical items and the new differential item functioning analyses to find and eliminate biased items.

PRO-SCORE Computer Scoring System - These optional software components allow test users to accurately, conveniently, and quickly score TOLD-I:3. A multipage report is generated, which contains all information necessary for interpreting a student's performance. The report is suitable for inclusion in a student's permanent record. The PRO-SCORE System is menu driven so that minimal reference to manuals is necessary, and it is designed to anticipate common mistakes and to alert the user to possible errors.
