"Speech Class Rules" is a well-written and beautifully illustrated book that explains semantic, syntactic, phonological, pragmatic language, and voice disorders. It was written to introduce children to speech therapy and to address issues, concerns, and questions that children requiring speech therapy may have. School-aged children can read this story about class rules and have a clearer idea of what to expect in speech class. It will also help children relate to others experiencing problems with their speech and language skills and make them more comfortable attending speech class after reading the book.
The last three pages in the book contain questions for the classroom, questions for home, and questions for children about to begin speech therapy.
This book should benefit elementary classroom teachers, special education teachers, and speech-language pathologists who are trying to explain communication disorders and their treatment to young school aged children. It also provides an excellent conversation topic for kids that have been in speech for several years.
Speech Class Rules has just received third place (bronze) in the Health Issues category of the 2008 Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. TSP101 $5.00 (Save 75%)
