Children's Publishing :: Articulation :: Sound Strategies for Sound Production - A Multisensory Approach for Improving Intelligibility (Manual & CD-ROM) PE11831

Sound Strategies for Sound Production - A Multisensory Approach for Improving Intelligibility (Manual & CD-ROM) PE11831 #424
Sound Strategies for Sound Production - A Multisensory Approach for Improving Intelligibility (Manual & CD-ROM) PE11831  This set bridges the gap between knowledge of articulation disorders and actual treatment methodologies. With this program, you'll get a comprehensive collection of strategies, techniques, and tools developed over years of hands-on clinical trials.

The approach taken in this program is eclectic. It incorporates elements of traditional, phonological, oral-motor, and other multisensory techniques. Combining these approaches allows for a customized plan for an individual's particular remediation needs.

The work is divided into two parts - the Clinician's Manual and CD-ROM containing reproducible materials and worksheets. The manual contains all the information needed to understand and use the oral-motor and multisensory cueing strategies presented. For each phoneme there is:
a. A review of the oral musculature and function
b. An oral-peripheral examination checklist
c. A discussion of the common errors
d. Specific oral-motor exercises
e. Established remediation techniques that have worked well in a variety of clinical settings

Chapter 1 reviews the theory behind the Sound Strategies eclectic approach; common symptons of children who could benefit from this approach; and categories of signal cues used in the approach.
Chapter 2 contains detailed lesson plans and multisensory cues.
Chapter 3 provides sample lessons illustrating how to integrate the eclectic approach into your everyday therapy.
Chapter 4 through 9 present the strategies and techniques used for each of the sound classes covered in the program.
Chapter 10 discusses ways to ensure carryover of treatment goals into everyday situations.

The CD-ROM includes the following tools:
1. Wow Sheets - Forms are provided so that a customized record can be made of those words, phrases, and sentences in which the learner can produce every phoneme correctly. These Wow sheets become the learner's trophies of intelligibility.
2. Drill Lists - Early and frequent success is an integral part of the Sound Strategies approach. The Drill Lists provide easy access to simple contexts for the learner.
3. Homework Practice - Minimal pair drills are included to address common error patterns.
4. Songs - Sung to the tune of well-known children's songs, the Sound Songs have lyrics that describe the manner, place, and voicing of each consonant.
5. Reinforcement Activities - The motor learning approach emphasizes the need for a sufficient number of repetitions to establish the required motor pattern and frequent feedback to maintain correct production.
6. Lesson Sequence Worksheets - Sample lessons are provided for each phoneme in the Sound Strategies CD-ROM. They can be reproduced for each student and used to monitor progress.

Graduate studens will find step-by-step concrete therapeutic techniques that may be used in the university clinical settings and transitioned into the workplace. New clinicians will get a jump-start on effective remedial techniques in a structured format that can be used in a wide range of professional settings. Seasoned practitioners will be outfitted with a fresh variety and range of treatment strategies to address the needs of highly unintelligible clients requiring a more intensive approach. Anyone who uses articulation therapy will benefit greatly from this practical, comprehensive program.
