Sandbox Learning Success Stories - Social Skills Collection #1 SBL102  These are personalizable storybooks in which you can customize the illustrations to the child's appearance based on gender, hair style, hair color, skin color, eye color, glasses, and method of communication (words, sign language, picture exchange communication system, and augmentative communication device). You can also alter the text to personalize the story's content to truly address an individual's needs and help them connect with the topics. Build a special book together for a fun and creative activity or let a child know you care by creating a book just for them. These personalized and interactive books will also motivate reluctant readers and be helpful in working on sequencing and transitioning skills.

Social Skills Collection #1 contains the following 6 books:

1. "Making Friends" is a 14 page book that discusses strategies for making friends including helping others, taking turns, inviting others to play, listening in conversations, and trying new activities.

2. "My Hands" is a 15 page book that discusses the many positive things hands can do as well as inappropriate hand usage such as hitting, pinching, and throwing things. A page for child-specific hand behaviors and appropriate strategies is included.

3. "Meeting People" is a 9 page book that incorporates the social skills and steps important for meeting someone new.

4. "Sharing" is an 8 page book that addresses the social skills required when friends want to share a toy or when the focus child would like to borrow an item from a peer.

5. "Using Nice Words" is a 12 page book that discusses using kind words towards others, talking positively about yourself, using appropriate words to get someone's attention, swearing, and tone of voice. Includes customization of troublesome words for the child and a customized alternative word or phrase.

6. "Strangers" is a 15 page book that discusses who is a stranger, how to avoid a variety of stranger's lures, and how to react if approached.

Purchase a card that gives you internet access to print the books ordered for 1 year with unlimited copies for an unlimited number of students. Your password gives you the capability to print the customizable books in color or in black and white to be used as a coloring book. Worksheets are also included for working on additional skills.

These books are excellent for all children, normally developing and those with special needs. The books are especially good for children diagnosed with autism and aspergers and other developmental delays as they are high in visual supports.
