Sandbox Learning Success Stories - Home Skills Collection #2 SBL108  These are personalizable storybooks in which you can customize the illustrations to the child's appearance based on gender, hair style, hair color, skin color, eye color, glasses, and method of communication (words, sign language, picture exchange communication system, and augmentative communication device). You can also alter the text to personalize the story's content to truly address an individual's needs and help them connect with the topics. Build a special book together for a fun and creative activity or let a child know you care by creating a book just for them. These personalized and interactive books will also motivate reluctant readers and be helpful in working on sequencing and transitioning skills.

Home Skills Collection #2 contains the following 8 books:

1. "Getting Ready for Bed" is a 13 page book that discusses bedtime routines including using the bathroom, brushing teeth, bathing, and dressing. Personalize child specific information including bed time, pre-bedtime activities, and other specific bedtime routines.

2. "Taking Care of Me" is a 14 page book that discusses critical skills for staying clean and healthy including washing your hands throughout the day, bathing, wearing clean clothes, brushing your teeth, and hair, and using a tissue.

3. "Using the Bathroom" is a 16 page book that discusses steps for using the bathroom including knocking on and closing the door, using toilet paper, flushing, and washing hands as well as using bathrooms in the community. Allows for personalization of bathroom terms and child specific skills.

4. "Getting Ready for School" is an 12 page book that includes the sequence of events such as brushing teeth, eating breakfast, and dressing that are a part of a morning routine.

5. "Going Places" is a 18 page book that discusses safe practices for traveling to and from places in the community including safe car and bus practices, parking lot safety, and appropriate behavior in community settings.

6. "Trying New Foods" is a 14 page book that discusses trying new foods throughout the day including at home and school. A repetitive line with the child's name is included to encourage new foods.

7. "Going to the Grocery Store" is a 14 page book that discusses going to the grocery store including staying near an adult, helping, using an inside voice, and waiting at the check out counter.

8. "Going to the Doctor" is a 14 page book that discusses a trip to the doctor's office including waiting for an appointment, receiving a shot, and having a check-up.

Purchase a card that gives you internet access to print the books ordered for 1 year with unlimited copies for an unlimited number of students. Your password gives you the capability to print the customizable books in color or in black and white to be used as a coloring book. Worksheets are also included for working on additional skills.

These books are excellent for all children, normally developing and those with special needs. The books are especially good for children diagnosed with autism and aspergers and other developmental delays as they are high in visual supports.
