Children's Publishing :: Music Therapy :: "R" in the Car CD STP101 (CLON)

"R" in the Car CD STP101 (CLON) #610
"R" in the Car CD STP101 (CLON)  This CD was developed by speech pathologist Alida Engle with over 35 years of exerience for direct teaching of children in pre-school throught elementary grades and for practice in the kindergarten classroom, speech class, family home, and car. It can be used by clinicians, teachers, and parents.

This CD contains great music for practicing the "R" sounds. The songs were written and wonderfully performed by Jay Mankita and the Grooveniles.

Following are some tips to help you get started:
> Be patient. Learning to sing along takes repeated listening.
> Work at mastering one or two words at a time.
> Pick your favorites - you don't have to learn it all.
> Adults should exaggerate the "R" as they sing along.

There is no one way to teach the /r/ sound. Alida Engel has found that learning to pronounce the /r/ at the end of words is usually the easiest way to begin, as in are, car, where, hair, Pierre, bear, air, and chair ("R in the Car" tracks 2 and 3). To get a good /r/ sound, at some point the tongue and lips must both move, but initially, focus on moving the tongue independently from the lips. Most children and adults need this focus.

Following is a listing of tracks on the CD:
1. Introduction
2. "Are You in the Car?"
3. "Where is the Chair?"

5. "Very, Very Dark"
