The PLSS can be given in 10 to 15 minutes. It includes nine subtests: Rhyme, Sentence Repetition, Naming, Blending, Sentence Segmentation, Letter Naming, Syllable Segmentation, Deletion, and Multisyllabic Word Repetition.
You will find interpreting PLSS results simple and straightforward. Identify your at-risk students by selecting the lowest 20% of the students screened. Data collected informally with this screening protocol indicate good accuracy in predicting children who will encounter difficulty learning to read. School Districts using this screening are able to begin intervention in kindergarten. They do not wait for failure.
