Practical Language Activities - Materials for Clinicians & Teachers ECL32622
Practical Language Activities - Materials for Clinicians & Teachers ECL32622 #540
This book is intended for use by speech-language pathologists, special education teachers, and by regular education teachers who have students with expressive language deficits in their classroom.
The activities within each section have been arranged in what might be considered a progression from the least difficult to the most difficult. However, because of the unique learning styles of individual students, the materials should be selected for use based on appropriateness for specific students or groups of students. The Table of Contents is designed as a quick reference guide to locate activities that address specific areas of expressive language.
More than 60 language skills are covered including:
Semantics:
> Adjectives
> Analogies
> Antonyms
> Basic concepts
> Categories
> Idioms
> Part-whole relationships
> Prepositions
> Proverbs
> Sentence meaning
Syntax and morphology:
> Adverbs
> Conjunctions
> Plural forms
> Prefixes and suffixes
> Pronouns
> Sentence construction
> Sentence transformation
> Verb forms
> Wh- questions
Pragmatics:
> Critical thought
> Description
> Expression of feelings
> Humor
> Prediction
> Problem solution
> Social awareness
Worksheets are included at the end of each section to take advantage of the strengths in visual processing that the students may have. The auditory/visual association provided by the worksheet activities is often useful in developing the expressive language skills of language-impaired students. The worksheets can be used individually or in groups, but in all instances they should be presented as fun activities.
It should be recognized that the majority of the activities are not intended to be completed during any one session if the content is beyond the ability level of the children. The content of any activity should be presented in short, intensive periods of instruction. Although attention is best maintained through interesting and varied instructional activites, repretition of learning by the review process is the primary key to success.
Speech-language pathologists, special education teachers and regular classroom teachers will appreciate the scope and convenience of this remarkable book. A must for any professional working with language-impaired students!
