Picture Source Combo Set: /r/-/s/-/l/ Words ECL55246  In addition to developing correct production of the target sound, the illustrations can be used in categorization, sorting, and/or vocabulary-building activities.

Each set of illustrations is grouped into 5 general categories:
1. Animals & habitats
2. Body parts & clothing
3. Communication & technology
4. Food & nutrition
5. Transportation & travel

Related words are included in each category to allow maximum latitude in vocabulary selection as well as a wide range of interactions and observations. Each category contains illustrations of 36 words, twelve for each of three target sound postions:
1. Initial position
2. Medial position & blends
3. Final position

The illustrations are also highly adaptable to a wide variety of materials, such as card decks, wheels, spinners, gameboards, pull strips, flip books, worksheets, and communication boards.

Use of illustrations from all three sets organized by category offers a rich library of illustrations to support projects in science and social studies (for example, illustrating reports or researching pictures). The word sheets that accompany the illustration sheets expand the possibilities of use to include reading and writing activities. Organization of target sounds by position supports remediation procedures for single sounds.

Traditional therapy for articulation remediation proceeds from production of the correct sound in isolation through incrementally larger units of speech (syllable, word, phrase, sentence, paragraph, conversation). The illustrations in each set can be utilized in activities for teaching production from word level through conversation as follows:
1. Word Level - Say each word as you point to it. Invite students to repeat after you, using correct /r/, /s/, or /l/ production. After students become familiar with the illustrations, they can name them as you point to them.
2. Phrase Level - Ask students to identify one characteristic of each illustration. Help students practice saying the phrase consisting of the characteristic plus the target word.
3. Sentence Level - Ask students to make up sentences about each illustration.
4. Paragraph Level - Ask students to prepare and read a report that uses three or four words from a single sheet of illustrations.
5. Conversation Level - Ask students to select a sheet of illustrations and to locate and talk about topics they have studied this year (or last year). Engage students in conversations converning these studies.

> Activity suggestions
