When listening to the 12 songs, use gestures while singing the words. Let the lyrics guide you. Children who are not yet imitating words or phrases may be able to imitate actions, and the songs focus on this. In additions to using gestures, utilize the 12 Animal Face Posters and other illustrations while singing the songs. The songs are meant to increase engagement with others, however, the songs will only accomplish this goal when adults sing, do the gestures, share the illustrations, and participate directly with the child.

The animal face posters can be used as they are or as masks by cutting out face holes along the dotted lines. It is recommended that you print out an additional set of the 12 animal posters and laminate them all. Then keep one set with the animal faces intact and cut out the faces on the other set. These cut-out posters have been used extensively by Rachel Arntson, speech-language pathologist, with young children with speech and language delays and disorders. The masks are excellent for creating engagement, encouraging eye contact, taking turns, imitating animal sounds, and teaching perspective of what others are seeing (some children turn the mask backwards so they can see the face as opposed to showing others the animal's face).
Many songs from KET Set 5 can be sung using the these animal-face posters, but the song, "Who Are You?" is especially good with these posters. Children LOVE pretending to be animals and imitating the sounds that the animals make.

Kids' Express Train Set 5 - Animals Movin' & Groovin' KET508 $29.99
The day that a child says his first word is a day for celebration! Research relates the importance of exposing children to rhyme and select words. To enhance a child's learning experience it is important to target vocabulary words/animal sounds based from research on thousands of children learning language. To encourage the production of select target words KET Set 5 and a book "I Can Say That" (CHP108) written by Dr. Suzy Lederer, a professor of speech-language pathology with over 25 years of professional experience, can be used together for this purpose. Both use proven language-learning techniques including multilple repetitions of each word by the authors which provide many opportunities for children to produce each word along with positive reinforcement.
