It's All About Language! SP101-SP104  The main purpose of the "It's All About Language" booklets is to move students toward fluency by improving decoding accuracy and word recognition. The method used is targeted at students exhibiting ADD/ADHD behaviors or other conditions that might impede learning in a conventional method.

The reproducible booklet sets available for 3 different levels utilize color and movement to create a multi-sensory approach to Reading and Language Arts. This approach has proved to be highly effective because it allows students to focus.

Because of the nature of these materials, a traditional 'teacher's edition' edition is not included or necessary. A set of guidelines as follows is more appropriate:

1. What you will need - For best results, both light and dark colored fine-tipped markers should be used. The font size used in the booklets was selected to accommodate these so that students "trace" rather than "color in" words. Crayons, map pencils, ect, can also be used, but the penmanship practice will be less effective.

2. How to use these materials - These materials can be used most effectively by making individual booklets for each student in your group. The easiest way to do this is to make double sided copies of each page, then staple along the left edge to bind them.

3. How to begin - Start by seating your students in a roughly circular pattern so that the "light" color markers can be passed around. Allow each student to select a dark color marker. The dark marker will not be passed to other students. The idea here is to lengthen the activites and to produce a collection of letters or words that clearly illustrates the concept being taught.

4. Word Search - The first activity in each booklet is a word search that contains some of the words that will be used in the passages.
a. Find and trace the "vowels".
b. Once the vowels have been found, the students find and trace the words that are listed in the word-bank.

5. Scanning Activity - The teacher directs the student to find and trace the words that are listed in the word-bank.
a. Trace the target word and its ordinal position word (first color, second color, etc.) on the page on the left.
b. Find the word in the passage and trace it using the same color.
c. Once you are satisfied that all students have found and traced the target word, have the students rotate the markers in a clockwise direction.
d. Move to the next target word and repeat the steps.

6. Question/Complete Sentence Answer - Following each scanning passage, a series of questions are presented. These are accompanied by a complete sentence answer that the students trace in.

7. Word Sorts - After the passages, a number of word sort activities are presented.

8. Comprehension - The passage is presented again, as a whole, followed by simple comprehension questions.

Reproducible booklet sets are available for three different levels:

1. It's All About Language (Black Line Masters) Level 0.5 Packet 1 contains three 20 page reproducible booklets that introduce/reinforce letter-sound correspondances, sight words, word families, and penmanship. Activities in the booklets are mainly focused around letter sounds within single, one syllable words. Use this packet with students reading at or below the first grade level. SP101 $9.95

2. It's All About Language Level 1 Book 1 contains five 20-24 page reproducible booklets that reinforces word recognition, sentence structure, vowel sounds, syllabication, critical thinking, comprehension, and penmanship. Activities in the booklets are mainly focused on identifying words within passages at a beginning-first grade level. These are generally one and two syllable 'decodable' words, as well as sight-words. Word sorts, critical thinking, and comprehension activities are also included.

It's All About Language Level 1 Book 2 contains five 20-24 page reproducible booklets that reinforeces word recognition, sentence structure, vowel sounds, syllabication, critical thinking, comprehension, and penmanship. Activities in the booklets are mainly focused on identifying words within passages at a beginning-first grade level. These are generally one and two syllable 'decodable' words, as well as sight-words. Word sorts, critical thinking, and comprehension activities are also included.

E. The Little Girl's Adventure

It's All About Language Level 1.5 Book 1 contains five 20-24 page reproducible booklets that reinforeces word recognition, sentence structure, vowel sounds, syllabication, critical thinking, comprehension, and penmanship. Activities in these booklets also focus around word identification within passages, but at an advanced 1st grade level. Three and four syllable words are included. Once again, word-sorts, critical thinking, and comprehension activities are included.
