"Hoo, Hoo - Who Is In My Tree? is the second in a series of Interactive Holiday Books by Megan Miller. Items included in this set are:
1. Book with laminated colorful pictures and character manipulatives (ghost, monster, bat, cat, witch, owl, and spider) with Velcro backing for interactive storytelling.
2. CD with reproducible colorful pictures and activities. It is suggested that you laminate the pictures to better preserve them. The suggested activities are for a wide range of ages (2-6) and cognitive levels.
The handy chart on the CD lists the Materials Needed and Language Communication, Articulation, and Motor Skills for the following 10 activities:
1. Memory Tree - Children can practice their language and speech skills at the sentence level, while sharpening their memory skills.
2. How do you feel? - Discuss feelings and emotions, to include those associated with Halloween: scared, spooked, frightened, afraid, happy, sad, excited.
3. Halloween Mazes and Scavenger Haunts - Have children complete mazes.
4. Where is Pumpkin? - Arrange children in a circle.
5. Spin a Spider Web of Sounds - Use stimulus pictures for children's speech and language objectives.
6. Masks - Allow the children to color and cut out the book character masks.
7. Who am I? (younger children) - Listening exercises: As an extension of the mask activities, give each child a turn to act out the sounds and movements for a character.
8. Who am I? (older children) - For the children practicing reading and comprehension, use the "Who am I?" cards.
9. Color and create story - Children can use some or all of the reproducible pictures on the CD to retell the story.
10. Halloween party - Children can dress up as a character in the book and play holiday related games.
Also included on the CD are Additional Suggestions - Related activities that expand on language concepts from the book.
Some children may not be ready to sit for extended periods of time or may not be ready for some of the paper activities as presented on the CD. Therefore, use these activities as appropriate for the child to supplement the storytelling with hands-on activities.
