GeoSafari Phonics Pad - Interactive Phonics Program EI8910 (CLON) #336
GeoSafari Phonics Pad - Interactive Phonics Program EI8910 (CLON)

Launch children toward reading success with "Phonics Pad", the award-winning reading program based on the best practices in reading education. Using the "Phonics Pad's" touch sensitive learning station (10-1/2" W x 13" T) and the 128 interactive lesson cards, children can touch, listen, and learn to read in a systematic and enjoyable way. Just place a lesson card on the touch-sensitive surface, and the "Phonics Pad" magically recognizes the lesson before downloading its gameplay, speech, and sounds. In an instant, lights begin flashing along the sides and a crystal-clear voice explains what to do next. Throughout each lesson, lights and speech direct and correct answers. "Phonics Pad" is so easy to use that even young children can use it independently.

Try a demo of Phonics Pad.

The 128 interactive cards developed and designed by classroom teachers contain lessons on early learning reading readiness skills (letters, numbers, colors, shapes, ryhmes), phonics (consonants, short vowels, long vowels, blends & diagraphs), and advanced phonics.

The Reading Readiness Unit 1 is a motivating learning program that provides children with the fundamental skills necessary to become good readers. The 20 lessons (See Sample Lesson Cards.) in this module teach, reinforce, and apply reading readiness skills that are the foundation of a phonics-based program. The skills that children will learn are:
1. Auditory and visual discrimination.
2. Letter identififcation.
3. Classification and categorizing.
4. Learning left from right.
5. Building auditory memory.
6. Identification of colors, shapes, and numbers. Pretest/Posttest assessment pages are included for each lesson.

Phonics is the level of reading at which children understand the letter-sound relationship and includes the following:

A. Consonant Sounds are the foundation of phonics. Learning these sounds is the first essential task on the road to reading. In Unit 2 with 36 lessons (See Sample Lesson Cards.) on Consonant Sounds children will learn:
> The beginning, middle, and final sounds made by the letters m, t, s, b, r, c, f, d, n, g, k, w, h, l, v, j, p, q, y, and z.
> The final sound of x.
> The hard and soft sounds of the letters c and g.
Pretest/Posttest assessment pages are included for each lesson.

B. Short Vowels are used to open the door to reading as children learn the skills that will help them decode, or sound out, simple words. In Unit 3 with 18 lessons (See Sample Lesson Cards.) on Short Vowels children will learn:
> The short sound associated with each vowel - a, e, i, o, and u.
> To identify short vowel pictures and words.
> To read shimple short vowel words such as cap, hen, big, hot and rug. Pretest/Posttest assessment pages are included for each lesson.

C. Long Vowels say their name as children learn long vowel sounds as the next step in a sequential phonics program. Reading long vowel words is more challenging because there are many ways to spell each long vowel sound. For example, the words safe, sail, and say all contain the long a sound, but use different spelling patterns for the long vowel sound. In Unit 4 with 18 lessons (See Sample Lesson Cards.) on long vowels children will learn:
> The long vowels sounds of a, e, i, o, and u.
> The relationship between silent "e" and long vowels sounds (cake, bike, pole).
> That side-by-side vowels often make a long vowel sound (neat, pie, coat). > How to identify and read simple words with long vowel sounds.
Pretest/Posttest assessment pages are included for each lesson.

D. Blends & Digraphs - Children will add to their decoding skills and greatly increase their reading vocabulary by sounding out words that contain blends and diagraphs. A consonant blend occurs when two or more consonants come together in a word. A consonant digraph occurs when two consonants come together and form a single sound. In Unit 5 with 18 lessons (See Sample Lesson Cards.) on blends and digraphs children will learn:
> r blends - br, cr, dr, fr, pr, and tr.
> l blends - bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, and sl.
> s blends - sk, sm, sn, sp, st, and sw. > three-letter blends - scr, spl, spr, squ, and str.
> final blends such as -ft, -mp, -nd-, -gn, -nk, -nt-, -sk, and -st.
> consonant digraphs - sh, ch, th, and wh.
> to read words with blends and digraphs.
Pretest/Posttest assessment pages are included for each lesson.

Varient Vowels and Advanced Phonics lessons in Unit 6 cover a variety of advanced phonics skills allowing children to read more complex and challenging words. With 18 lessons (See Sample Lesson Cards.) on advanced phonics children will learn to read words containing:
> The r-controlled vowels ar, er, ir, or, and ur.
> Vowel digraphs.
> Vowel diphthongs.
> Silent letters.
> The letter "y" as a vowel.
> Various long "o" spellings.
> Variant spellings of the /f/ sound.
> Basic sight words.
Children will also practice counting syllables and reading sentences for comprehension.
Pretest/Posttest assessment pages are included for each lesson.

As children progress through these units, they will also be expanding their vocabulary, developing cognitive skills, and refining their listening skills. All games and activities are designed to be entertaining as well as stimulating.

The "Phonics Pad" unit requires four C batteries (not included) or an AC adapter (sold separetly). A standard 1/4" headphone jack with headphones (sold separately) can be used for silent learning.
