Toddlers are just beginning to recognize shapes. You can help to reinforce this concept everyday, by pointing out the shapes of familar objects at home, in the park, or in the grocery store.

Toddlers and young children will enjoy "spying" the shapes in the illustrations, as well as counting how many of each shape they can find. You can even "see and spy" shapes during long car rides.

As you pose and answer each counting question with your toddler, reinforce the connection between the numeral and the number of objects in the picture. Touch your child's finger to each object that you count.

Use this book as a way to teach the parts of the body to your toddler. Identify the body parts that seem common to all animals (such as eyes) and others that only appear on some (such as horns). It's a great way to expand vocabulary!

Once your young child can identify and count objects named in the questions, try counting other objects in each illustration.
