  Children's Publishing :: Articulation :: Artic Skits - Plays For /r/ Phoneme Carryover CHP110

  Artic Skits - Plays For /r/ Phoneme Carryover CHP110 #315
Artic Skits - Plays For /r/ Phoneme Carryover CHP110  "Artic Skits" and the accompanying CD for PC are designed to motivate reluctant speech students and readers by using interactive drama. This workbook encompasses a wide range of techniques that can be adapted for use with a variety of speech and language impaired children. Use of cartoon characters in the following 6 skits motivate the reluctant reader to read and are effective tools to work on a variety of speech and language areas:

> The Little Red Rooster
> Brewster Ryan Cracks The Case
> Rhonda's Surprise Party
> The Incredible Shrinking Twins
> Rachel Runs The Race
> The Contest

These skits are excellent for carryover of the /r/ phoneme and can also be used to teach social interaction to individuals diagnosed with Aspergers and high functioning autism.

Following each skit, you will find various activities that can be used with groups of 3 to 6 students to work on comprehension, vocabulary development, and syntax.

Drama is effective because it is multisensory, kinesthetic, visual, and oral. It can be used in a variety of ways. The use of multiple senses facilitates learning and memory. Drama can be used as a way of practicing correct speech and language in a natural setting, and for role-playing real-life situations. The students will hear what they, and others, read and react physically and emotionally to the scripted readings. Drama can help to provide a safe and accepting environment in which students can gain the confidence to experiment and explore language in ways they may otherwise have avoided.

The accompanying CD for PC provides the purchaser with the ability to conveniently print copies of the skits from a PDF file for each student. The CD also contains the activities and suggestions as listed in the workbook.
