Linda Stoler, MA, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
A speech language pathologist, early educator, literacy consultant, poet and song writer, Linda Stoler graduated with an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology. Her more than 40 year career as a speech-language pathologist was fueled by her interest in and dedication to understanding the relationship between infant-toddler language development and a child’s ability to learn to read. She is passionate about allowing the creative spirit of each child to be nurtured while involved in the learning process.
Linda was an early advocate of a multi modality approach to early language acquisition. She created The Multi-Modality Method combining original music, dance and American Sign Language. She was the co-creator of “Project Acclaim”, a curriculum that addressed the need for inspiring and diverse teaching methods for the development of early language and literacy skills for special needs children. Through songs, poetry, dance and American sign Language “Project Acclaim” has joyfully and successfully helped thousands of young children focus on and listen to one another as they develop social skills and achieve language proficiency.
In 1998 Linda, with the help of her husband Will, founded Willinda Communications, Inc., a music and video production company to support the use of the Multi-Modality Method for early language learning and literacy success. To date Willinda has produced four CDs, an American Sign Language music video and related teaching materials. She recently completed (2007) an Independent ASHA Study research project with children birth through five years using her methodology. She published an article in Homeschool Magazine titled “Music for Early Learning with Linda S. Stoler” in 2005. Linda holds the Certificate of Clinical Competency, the highest level of certification in her field. She has taught at the college level and frequently conducts trainings and seminars in language development, literacy success and behavior management throughout the United States. Her five hour literacy course was approved by the State of Florida. Linda is presently represented by Sign2Me for production of her products.
The following is a broad stroke on how children with speech and language difficulties can benefit from using my CDs:
Children with speech and language delays have difficulty with listening and processing of sounds and language. They often cannot hear sounds at the beginning, middle and ends of words.
The songs on the CDs were created for all children, but specifically for children with speech and language difficulties. These CDs with accompanying teaching manual (soon to be published by Sign2Me) gives children birth through five with speech and language problems, an opportunity to be immersed in the sounds of our language, become phonologically aware of sounds and eventually learn to successfully produce them. The music and songs, each song a sound poem for a specific sound, helps the child to sing and produce the repetitive sounds within each song. Songs about concepts such as animals, colors, family, weather, etc. help to build vocabulary, semantics and syntax as the child learns to sing the songs with some accompanying sign language added.
Having used the Multi-Modality Method (music, dance, and American Sign Language) for close to 40 years, Linda has observed the positive effects on a child’s ability to listen, focus, process and retrieve information as they learn to communicate more effectively and experience the joy of learning. She has repeatedly observed significant improvements in children’s behavior.
